8 Cores / 16 Threads – Zen 5 with 3D V-Cache

Built on the Granite Ridge AM5 platform, the 9800X3D features 8 high-performance cores and 16 threads with simultaneous multithreading (SMT). The processor runs at a 4.7 GHz base clock with boost speeds reaching up to 5.2 GHz via Precision Boost 2. The massive 96MB of L3 cache (32MB on-die + 64MB 3D V-Cache stack) combined with 8MB L2 cache and 640KB L1 cache provides an enormous buffer for gaming workloads, dramatically reducing cache misses and improving frame time consistency.

Fully Unlocked – Overclock and Tune to Perfection

The 9800X3D is fully unlocked for overclocking, giving enthusiasts complete control over their system’s performance. Fine-tune memory speeds with AMD EXPO profiles, dial in per-core voltage offsets with the Curve Optimizer, push boost behavior with Precision Boost Overdrive, and manage it all through AMD Ryzen Master software. A liquid cooler is recommended to extract maximum performance, with the processor rated for operation up to 95°C Tjmax at a 120W default TDP.

The 9800X3D uses the AM5 socket with broad chipset compatibility across A620, B650, B650E, X670, X670E, X870, X870E, B840, and B850 motherboards. The platform supports cutting-edge DDR5 memory and PCIe 5.0 for next-generation graphics cards and NVMe storage. Integrated AMD Radeon Graphics with 2 compute units at 2200 MHz provides basic display output with USB Type-C DisplayPort Alternate Mode support for modern monitors.

Boxed Processor – Global Availability

The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D is available as a boxed desktop processor (PIB) with global availability. Note that a thermal solution is not included in the box — AMD recommends a liquid cooler for optimal thermal performance. The processor launched on November 7, 2024 and supports Windows 11 64-bit, Windows 10 64-bit, RHEL x86 64-bit, and Ubuntu x86 64-bit operating systems.
