Western Digital WD My Book 6TB Desktop External Hard Drive

Your Trusted Desktop Storage Companion

The WD My Book 6TB Desktop External Hard Drive is built for users who need dependable, high-capacity storage to protect their entire digital world. With 6TB of space, you can archive photos, videos, music, documents, and even complete computer system backups—ensuring your most valuable memories and files remain preserved for years to come.

Versatile & Easy-to-Use

Setting up the My Book is straightforward. It comes preformatted exFAT for immediate compatibility with both Windows and macOS. Simply plug in the power adapter, connect the USB cable, and the drive is recognized instantly. Drag-and-drop your files, or schedule automatic backups for a hands-off experience.

Included Backup Software

For Windows users, the drive includes WD Backup software, which lets you schedule automatic backups of your files, folders, or entire system. Mac users can leverage the built-in Apple Time Machine for seamless, continuous backup protection. The drive is formatted exFAT, meaning it works out of the box with both platforms without any reformatting.

256-bit AES Hardware Encryption

Your data is not just stored—it is protected. The My Book features 256-bit AES hardware encryption, one of the strongest encryption standards available. With WD Security software, you can set a password that prevents unauthorized access to your files. Unlike software-based encryption that relies on your CPU, hardware encryption operates at the drive level, ensuring your data remains secure even if the drive is removed from its enclosure.

Wide Compatibility

The USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface (also known as USB 3.0) delivers fast data transfer speeds and is backward compatible with USB 2.0 ports. Whether you are using an older laptop or a brand-new desktop, the My Book will work seamlessly. The drive is also compatible with WD Discovery software, which lets you manage backups, password protection, and drive settings from a single dashboard.

Design & Form Factor

The My Book features a vertical, stationary desktop form factor designed to sit upright and save desk space. Its sleek black enclosure blends into any home or office environment. The drive requires the included AC power adapter for operation—it is not bus-powered. This ensures stable, consistent performance for large file transfers and system backups.

Important Note: Sleep Mode & Power

High-capacity desktop drives like the My Book may not wake from sleep mode if the USB port cannot supply sufficient power. To avoid detection issues:

• Always connect the AC power adapter first, then plug the USB cable directly into your computer.
• Avoid using USB hubs or extension cables—connect directly to a rear USB port if possible.
• If the drive is not detected after sleep, restart your computer or reconnect the USB cable.
